Unconventional Compostion

Sometimes it can be a good idea to do away with the ‘rules’ of composition.

This is no more evident than in the T.V. series Mr. Robot.

The show utilises a technique known as lower quadrant framing and uses lots of negative space within each carefully arranged shot.

We stumbled on this video on Youtube and just had to share it with our readers.

In the video James sets out to describe how Mr. Robot goes about breaking the Rule of Thirds.

Whilst this is obviously focussing on cinematography the techniques can still be applied in photography.

The video below is another great example of this creative use of composition.

This video visually demonstrates Mr. Robot’s framing with a Rule of Thirds grid placed over the top of the footage.

Definitely something to consider when you next pick up your camera.
